
David Allain is an award-winning Scriptwriter and Director. Raised in East London, his parents were cleaners and devout Jehovah’s Witnesses. At great cost, David left the congregation as a teenager. Compelled to build a new life for himself, David pursued a filmmaking career fuelled by his passion for cinema.
David’s credits span theatre, documentaries, and advertising for clients including O2, BEATS, THE GUARDIAN, and CNN. He directed a 4-part series for SKY ARTS and two of his short films have been broadcast on CHANNEL 4.
In 2011, David helped renowned photographer Rankin set-up his film and TV arm, RANKIN FILM PRODUCTIONS (RFP). As Creative Director, David negotiated the company’s stake in the BAFTA-nominated feature doc ‘McCullin’, and was Co-Exec Producer on the SHEFFIELD DOC/FEST Special Jury Prize-winning feature ‘Attacking the Devil’. David also ran Collabor8te where he exec’d numerous shorts by emerging filmmakers. David left RFP in 2016 to focus on writing and directing.
In 2020, David’s charity film for OBV won a prestigious D&AD advertising award and Gold at the CREATIVE CIRCLE AWARDS. A commercial he wrote and directed for CNN also won the UNWTO Distinction Award for Best Inspirational Communication Campaign.
Alongside developing film and TV projects, David has recently scripted a 6-part true crime podcast for GLOBAL. Fact or fiction, long or short, David makes compelling work that combines visual flair with emotive storytelling.
David has a Masters in Screenwriting from ROYAL HOLLOWAY UNIVERSITY. He was mentored through DIRECTORS UK Inspire by BAFTA-winners Eran Creevy and Lucy Forbes, and is a current participant of the BFI Network x BAFTA Crew. David is represented by CASAROTTO RAMSAY and managed in the US by ELEVATE ENTERTAINMENT.
